I just came across an interesting quote by photographer/public speaker Joe Edelman:
"If you're not failing, you're not learning. If you're not learning, you're not improving. If you're not improving, you're lazy, and no one will care about your work, not even you."
My own thoughts are that yes, laziness can be a factor for some, but I'd bet that a far bigger factor is not getting enough support and encouragement.
The opinions of the judges during our competitions, while often helpful and encouraging, can also be the opposite! That's why I urge you to take advantage of a far more friendly form of feedback: the club's twice-monthly photo reviews. Here, you'll be among fellow members who come to see and enjoy your photos and to offer whatever thoughtful advice they can on making your photos even better.
Competition judges don't know you or what you're trying to do with your art--and they never will. But through the photo reviews, we all get to know each other, know what we're all trying to achieve, and know the kind of advice and encouragement we all need.
So, watch your email for a reminder of the next photo review, happening on Saturday, August 2. We'd love to see you there!
