Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition results

I was told that it is appropriate for me to share information about exhibits my photographs are in. On March 4, the Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition announced the finalists for this year's exhibition and I had two images chosen of the 48. You can see all of the finalists and vote for your favorite for People's Choice at the link below. The exhibit will be in place until June 4 at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. On April 2 I will attend a photographers' reception to hear the awards in each category and meet other photographers. Here is a link to their site.

I also have an exhibit on the second floor at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. Nine of my images from a trip to Iceland in 2017 are on the cancer wing, left off of the elevator and around behind the check-in desk. The hospital lifted its ban on visitors on March 1, so it is now possible to see the exhibit even if you have no medical reason to be at the hospital.

Pat. Would love to see your photos in the Appalachian Mtn. Photography Competition. However, the link you posted does not work. Do you have another link?

PS: You were Membership Chair when I first joined in 2009. Glad to see you back at CCC.

Yes, strangely it takes me to my Advancing Native Missions gmail account.

Looks like Pat thought she was linking to a web page whereas it was actually an email on her screen. It will take anyone to their gmail account (if they have one).

The finalists, including Pat, can be seen on this page:

Thanks to all of you for catching my mistake. I have corrected it above, I hope, and also changed some information about the SMJH exhibit. Happy Day to all.

Thanks for sharing! This is why I joined this group...didn't even know there was a competition. I frequent the mountains and on of my pictures for this month's category is similar to yours. This is my fav though of the past year.

Nice, Alex! Did you enter it into a monthly contest? I really like the composition. The bottom-to-top transition is really pleasing, the subject position works well, the side detail is not too little or too much, and the corners are all different but not distracting. Diagonal flow. A lot of nice details in it overall. If it doesn't qualify for a 2022 contest, I'd love to see a higher-res version posted in "Photography Talk" for critique.

Anton, thank you for the kind words. How do you add a high-res photo to photography talk (guessing it is the forum on here)? I'm new to this group and still trying to figure things out. This photo was fun to edit. Snow can bring the highlights up in certain areas; so, I dropped them and did an inverse radial gradient for exposure. Dulled the corners some and highlighted the subject. Created a cool, moody image that I'm happy with.

I don't think this would qualify for a 2022 contest here, but maybe the open section. One reason of me joining this group is to test myself a little and get out to the "same" outdoor/fishing picture. I rarely do portraits, architecture, product photos; so, it is fun to switch it up like the last few competitions!

I don't see any 2022 contest that would be a match, but yes you can enter it in Open without a time limit. The "Photography talk" section of this forum is or things like critique and comments; post it there in the best size/resolution you can (up to 10 MB). Maybe post it on your own photo sharing site with a link. At any rate I'd love to see a more detailed version.
