Competition

Judge:
Larry Treadwell
Theme:
Backlighting

Backlighting occurs when the subject is positioned in front of a light source. This positioning can yield quite dramatic and creative effects such as silhouetting the subject, casting a glow/halo around the subject, calling special attention to the outer contour of the subject, or illuminating a translucent subject. Backlighting should be intentional and viewed as a creative choice.

Larry Treadwell will be returning to judge the entries to this months competition.

Larry has been involved in photography for over 40 years. During this time he has been an Artist in Residence at Great Smoky Mountains National Park and a guest speaker at the U.S. Botanical Garden in Washington D.C., where he spoke on the issues facing the Florida Everglades. Larry is a judge for the Florida Council of Camera Clubs and currently judges numerous international competitions for the Photographic Society of America (PSA), as well as local camera clubs throughout the United States. He also teaches two online courses for PSA: "Image Evaluation" and "Creating Images for Competition."
