Still Life

A still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subjects, typically commonplace objects that may include both natural (fruit, flowers, rocks, etc.) and manufactured ones. Essential to a good still life is the meticulous arrangement of the components, where everything works together in a pleasing composition. Soft, warm lighting is usually the best choice, but whatever lighting you use, it should be complementary to the mood or feeling you’re trying to evoke.

Our judge this month is Arik Gorban. Arik is a photographer and photography instructor who focuses on the creative aspects of the photographic art form. His experience covers the complete photographic process, including analog photography, darkroom work, and extensive digital imaging.

Arik frequently conducts photo critique sessions for groups and individuals and judges photo contests, including PSA Year-End competitions and juried exhibitions. He presents photography programs in the USA and internationally, conducts workshops and PSA webinars, exhibits his fine-art photography, and publishes articles.

Arik is an FAA-certified Part 107 Drone Pilot.
