January 2019 Meeting

Thursday, January 10, 2019 - 5:45pm
Theme:
Walls and Fences

Albemarle County alone offers a plethora of fences for you to photograph, from old and decayed to carefully kept. The walls of old barns and city buildings can put a whole new twist on the topic. And don’t forget graffiti! Fences and walls may be used to lead the eye into the image, as a way to emphasize an element of your composition, or as the main subject of your photo. For some ideas and examples you can try the following two websites: https://www.lightsta... or https://www.better-d...

Serving as the judge for our January competition will be Zack Wajsgras. Zack works at the Daily Progress as staff photographer. He began shooting in high school through a digital photography class and became interested in photojournalism as a way to participate in current events and to connect with people from every walk of life. At Virginia Tech, Zack worked at the student newspaper, serving as photo editor and managing editor. Since joining the Daily Progress he has covered nearly every type of event and location in Charlottesville.
Zack will present a program that includes his work in Charlottesville, in Israel and Palestine, and a book project from Floyd, Virginia.
